NYSF FIRST LOOK: VILLAGE POURHOUSE TRUCK

August 1st, 2011

As I mentioned Friday, Village Pourhouse, a bar with 4 locations in the New York metro area, just came out with a food truck last week.  They don’t serve drinks (damn!), but they do serve a menu of bar food such as sliders, wings, chili cheese dogs, fries and milkshakes.

When I was at the truck Friday, it was what you would call a soft open.  They were still getting their “sea legs” and working out the kinks.  A few important things were not available at the truck yet, such as menus with prices and containers with lids.  Both were coming soon I was told.

The only menu available was on the side of the truck (below), and it didn’t have prices.  I asked for a few of the prices, and found out the sliders were $3 each and an order of wings was $5.

For the NYSF First Look, I ordered a beef slider, a buffalo chicken slider and sweet chili wings, which totaled $11.  The guy in front of me ordered fries, and I took a picture of that too, which is after the jump.

FOOD TRUCK SALES TO BENEFIT HIGH SCHOOL

February 23rd, 2011

From the Redondo Beach Patch:

“Whatever you spend at the food trucks along Harbor Drive, ten percent will go to the high school.

Former Hermosa Beach council member John Bowler has organized a festival of food trucks at the site of the future Shade Hotel. Called the Food Truck Fest and FUNdraiser, the food trucks will be serving their specialties today until 8 p.m., tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., as well as the weekend of March 19 and 20 and April 2 and 3.

“We’re rotating different trucks through here constantly,” said Bowler, the operator of the Barbie’s Q food truck.

Ten percent of sales will go to the Redondo Union High School Associated Student Body, Bowler said.

Bowler credited Shade Hotel owner Mike Zislis for making the Food Truck Fest and FUNdraiser happen. “No reason for the property to sit vacant when it can benefit the community,” Bowler said.

The trucks are located at 655 N. Harbor Drive.”

Now that’s a great idea.  If any New York food trucks (or anywhere for that matter) are looking for a good cause to support, local schools are an excellent way to give back to the community.  We can’t think of a better investment in the future.

FOOD TRUCK TABLE SERVICE HEADS WEST

February 1st, 2011

When I was in LA last week, the LA Times got all breathless about a new food truck event called Truckit Fest that will gather together dozens of LA’s food trucks at downtown Union Station on the first Sunday of each month, beginning March 6th.

According to the LA Times, the big news is this event will feature table service.

If I remember correctly, didn’t the Vendy Awards have this option last summer on Governor’s Island?  In fact, I know they did because I sat in that section with a falafel from the eventual winner, the King of Falafel & Shawarma, but when I went back later in the day to sit there, I wasn’t allowed.  Didn’t realize I snuck in the first time.

At the LA Truckit Fest, if you buy the VIP option for $45, you can order off a menu and have a truck’s food brought to you.

The Truckit Fest VIP ticket provides entrance an hour before the crowds; complimentary valet parking; access to a private lounge located in the Fred Harvey Room; a $10 voucher for the food trucks; and table service.

Regular admission to the Truckit Fest is $5 anyway, and with the $10 voucher, the option really costs only $30 more, assuming you eat at least $10 worth of food – and who doesn’t at a food festival?

NYSF IN LA: MEXICAN CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM SANDWICH FROM COOLHAUS

January 31st, 2011

truck

One of the stops I had to make in LA was Coolhaus, who are best known for their architecturally themed ice cream sandwiches.  Back in September, when I saw they were coming to NY in Spring 2011, I did a short post about it, which Natasha from Coolhaus noticed and wrote to thank me.

I asked Natasha to keep me informed of any developments with the Coolhaus NY truck, and told her I was coming to LA in January.  She said to stop by when I was in LA.

Coolhaus wasn’t at any of the multiple truck gatherings I went to for dinner this week, but they were on Valleyheart on my last day with the Grill ‘Em All truck.  If you recall, I had a lunch appointment that day, but walked over for a few minutes to meet the people at Grill ‘Em All and Coolhaus.

While I couldn’t eat a burger and fries before my business lunch, I decided to sneak in an ice cream sandwich from Coolhaus because it was probably my last chance before heading home.
