What’s a good way to get people to try new menu items? How about removing existing items from the menu and only having the new items for a “trial period”. That’s guaranteed to either make new converts or piss people off. Either way, it shows confidence in your team, and the new dishes they created.

Kimchi Taco Truck started 2013 with two new tacos yesterday – fried fish and fried chicken. They also brought out Big Belly Burritos to replace the Kim-Cheesesteak, but that’s for another day.

We looove fish tacos, so it was a long walk back to the office in anticipation of that first bite. (It was also f-ing freezing out, which made the walk seem longer than usual too.)

So what was on new tacos from Kimchi Taco Truck besides fish and chicken, and how were they?

Street Eats: Kim-Cheesesteak From Kimchi Taco Truck

December 14th, 2012

We were in the mood for a cheesesteak for lunch, but neither of the two food trucks in NYC serving cheesesteaks were nearby. One vendor nearby though was the Kimchi Taco Truck, who have one of the more unusual dishes around, a kim-cheesesteak. We’ve tried the beef about a year and a half ago, but never the chicken.

Korean fusion cuisine is very popular these days, with Korean tacos and burritos gaining a toehold in the lunchtime routines of New Yorkers. Kimchi Taco Truck gives it another twist with their kim-cheesesteak.

One of the things Philadelphia is known for (besides cheesesteaks) is soul music, with the O-Jays, Teddy Pendergrass, Gamble & Huff and others. This sandwich is more like Philly Seoul. (Whew, that was a long way to go for one joke.)

STREET EATS: ASSORTED TACOS FROM KIMCHI TACO TRUCK

April 13th, 2012

(credit: New York Street Food)

Last month Kimchi Taco Truck celebrated their 1st birthday.  To some people it may sound like all these Korean tacos trucks are the same, but they are most definitely distinct from each other.  Some are more traditional, some are more fusion, and some are in the middle.  KTT leans to the more traditional side, but still has some elements of other cuisines (tortillas, pico de gallo).

One of the better lunch deals around is 3 tacos for $7 at KTT.  There are 4 different types to chooses from, and you can mix and match.  I got a short rib, a chicken and a falafel taco.   That’s another outside influence – falafel.

Today is Kimchi Taco Truck’s 1st Birthday, and to celebrate, they will have $1 tacos all day.  All types of tacos are included, but please note there is a limit of 1 taco per person at the $1 price.

KTT is scheduled to be at Hudson & Clarkson from 11:30-2:30, 6th Ave & West 4th St from 3:30-5:30 and Astor Place from 6-9pm.  I love living in the Village!  Check the Mobile Munchies twitter feed before heading over.  These things have a way changing on short notice.

Congratulations Phil and everyone at KTT on an outstanding year!
