JAMAICAN DUTCHY CLOSED THIS WEEK, BUT RETURNING NEXT WEEK WITH A NEW TRUCK

May 31st, 2011

We spoke with O’Neill Reid on Friday during the New York Street Food Walking Tour, and he told us Jamaican Dutchy was going to be closed this week – but next week when he returns to 51st St & 7th Ave, it will be with a brand new truck and an expanded menu.

The 2009 Vendy Award Finalist told us the new menu will include burgers fries, wraps and salads in addition to the Jamaican favorites he cooked for the cart.

Looking forward to checking out O’Neill’s new menu next week.

JAMAICAN DUTCHY ADDING A TRUCK

May 19th, 2011

We just got some great news from O’Neill Reid, owner of the Jamaican Dutchy cart, and a 2009 Vendy Award Finalist.   He will be adding a big, blue Jamaican Dutchy truck to go along with his cart.

O’Neill tells us the truck will be parked alongside the cart on 51st St just east of 7th Ave, where he will be able to offer a greatly expanded menu.

Currently, he only has 2 sandwiches available on the cart – a jerk chicken one and a veggie one.  With the truck, O’Neill will be offering a lot more choices for sandwiches, and will have salads, burgers, french fries and more.  The food on the cart will remain the same.

The Jamaican Dutchy truck is not quite ready yet, but O’Neill tells us he expects the truck to be on the street either June 2nd or 3rd, towards the end of the week following Memorial Day.

Congratulations on the truck O’Neill.  We look forward to trying even more of your wonderful food.

Jamaican Dutchy’s website is here, twitter is here and facebook is here, but we will keep you abreast of any new developments.

TODAY’S LUNCH: PEPPERED STEAK FROM JAMAICAN DUTCHY

February 9th, 2011

I’ve been meaning to try the peppered steak from the Jamaican Dutchy for a while now. It’s their Wednesday special, but I keep forgetting to go there on Wednesdays. The one time I remembered about a month ago, they were out of peppered steak by the time I got there, and it was only a little after 1 o’clock.

I didn’t want to make that mistake again, so I headed out a little earlier than usual for Today’s Lunch, peppered steak (regular for $9 or large for $11) from Jamaican Dutchy, on 51st St just east of 7th Ave.

It’s freakin’ hot out, so I stayed near my office and went to the Jamaican Dutchy cart on the NE corner of 51st St & 7th Ave.  They were a Vendy Award finalist in 2009, and I’ve tried their jerk chicken sandwich and escovitch chicken, so it was time to try something new.  Today’s Lunch is the sweet & sour chicken from the Jamaican Dutchy cart.

One of the more popular food carts in midtown is the Jamaican Dutchy (JD) cart on the NE corner of 51st St and 7th Ave.  JD was founded by O’Neill Reid a few years ago, and they were a Vendy Award finalist in 2009.  While they didn’t come home with an award last year, JD gained a lot more fans , in addition to the many customers it already had.  The Jamaican Dutchy cart is well-known and loved by New Yorkers of all types.

O’Neill agreed to sit down with us for a NYSF Featured Vendor profile.  It took a little time for us to get together, but once we did, O’Neill gave us a friendly and engaging interview.  Here’s the latest NYSF Featured Vendor Profile with O’Neill Reid of Jamaican Dutchy:
