NYSF FEATURED VENDOR PROFILE: FRITES ‘N’ MEATS

August 3rd, 2011

The Brand New Frites 'N' Meats Truck

One of the early pioneers of the New York food truck scene is Frites ‘N’ Meats.  They have been serving delicious burgers and fries to hungry New Yorkers for lunch and dinner for nearly 2 years.

Frites ‘N’ Meats truly represents New York, with their main ingredients locally sourced – beef from DeBragga, buns from Balthazar Bakery and cheese from Murray’s.

Their fries go through the Belgian double frying process to ensure that golden color, with crispness on the outside and soft creaminess inside.

They are constantly coming up with new variations for their Burger of the Week, such as the Southwest Fusion Burger and the Oinker.  We also love their little touches, like the Dum Dum lollipops that are included free with every order.  What a great way to finish lunch!

As most of you know, Frites ‘N’ Meats had a terrible accident on the West Side Highway in mid-April, and have been off the road since then…but they are expected to be back on the NYC streets Monday, August 8th.

Although Frites ‘N’ Meats has been very busy gearing up for their return, Hiassam, one of the three brothers (with Moody and Ali) behind Frites ‘N’ Meats, agreed to grant us this exclusive interview for our next NYSF Featured Vendor Profile.

FRITES ‘N’ MEATS RETURNING WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK

August 1st, 2011

I received a call over the weekend from Hiassam of Frites ‘N’ Meats.  He told me the new truck was just about ready, and they were having it “wrapped” today or tomorrow with a new design.

But when exactly will they be back on the New York streets serving those delicious burgers and fries?

FRITES ‘N’ MEATS CO-OWNER FACING CHARGES IN CONNECTION WITH THEIR ACCIDENT

May 16th, 2011

At this point, most NYSF readers are aware of the accident last month on the Frites ‘N’ Meats truck that put Moody in the hospital  for a couple of weeks with serious burns.  In case you haven’t heard, he is expected to make a full recovery.

After hearing the news, many of you, and a bunch of the other food trucks, donated and raised money to help Frites ‘N’ Meats buy a new truck.

Just last week, Hiassam (Moody’s brother and a co-owner) told us they hope to be back on the street by August with a new truck that’s currently being built.

Today, Gothamist reported that Moody was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment because the truck was carrying twice the legal amount of propane (four cans instead of two) when the accident occurred.

We spoke with Hiassam for clarification, and he told us that that Moody wasn’t handcuffed and booked, but he was given a summons, and has to appear in court on June 6th.

Good to hear he wasn’t treated like a common criminal.

We will keep you apprised of the return of Frites ‘N’ Meats as it gets closer.

FRITES ‘N’ MEATS LOOKING TO RETURN BY AUGUST

May 10th, 2011

I heard from Hiassam last night of Frites ‘N’ Meats.  I’m sure you will recall they had that horrific accident last month in which one of his brothers, Moody, was seriously injured.

Hiassam said a lot of people were asking if and when they will be back.  He told me they recently put up a short blog post, which I have copied below the jump:

A MESSAGE FROM FRITES ‘N’ MEATS

April 15th, 2011

I received a call last night from Hiassam of Frites ‘N’ Meats.  He was the one who tweeted “does anyone know where they took my brothers” after their accident on the West Side Highway on Monday.

There are a few things Hiassam wants to get out there, and asked me to relate these to everyone.

First, Hiassam would like everyone to respect their privacy during this difficult time.  They appreciate everyone’s concern, but have not really had the time to respond to emails and voice mails.  Please keep inquiries limited to emails as they cannot answer the phone at this time.

Hiassam said he was reaching out to me to relate this information because I was the only one who did not try to call or email him during this ordeal.  Guess I’ve been through enough stuff like this to know to hang back, and let them reach out when they’re ready.

Hiassam said there are two things everyone has been asking: How did it happen, and are they coming back?
