New York Street Food

One of the first trucks I read about in L.A. that really grabbed my attention was the Buttermilk Truck.  I remember saying back at the end of 2009 that we need a breakfast truck like this in New York.  Last night I finally had a chance to try them.

The Hawaiian breakfast sliders looked interesting, as did the sausage biscuit sandwiches – but what I really wanted to try was the fried chicken & waffles ($7).  You can check out their full menu here.

Buttermilk Truck

Mainstreet.com recently published a list of their choices for the best food trucks in America.  While there are the usual suspects such as Calexico Carne Asada (not actually a food truck) and Dessert Truck (which is now a storefront) in New York and Kogi Korean BBQ, Skillet and Buttermilk Truck in L.A., there were a few left-field choices too.  Click here to see them, as well as to read a (very) short history of food trucks.

Buttermilk Truck (L.A.)

Someone needs to make a sacrifice to the street food gods so we can get a breakfast truck in NY like the Buttermilk Truck.  The L.A. street food pagans must have sacrificed quite a few virgins to get this beauty.  (Where they found virgins in L.A., I have no idea.  Although it might be pretty tough in NY, too)

Hawaiian Bread Cinnamon
French Toast Sticks

Served with powdered sugar and syrup
3 or 5 per order

Buttermilk Pancake Bites

Served with butter and syrup
Check for seasonal assorted flavors

Buttermilk Biscuit Breakfast Sandwiches

Served on housemade buttermilk biscuit with cheese and fried egg Choice of applewood smoked bacon, tocino, or chicken apple sausage
Available with rosemary garlic hash browns

Hawaiian Bread Breakfast Sliders

Portuguese sausage, sauteed onions and shoyu scrambled eggs on Hawaiian bread

Housemade Cake Donuts

Fried to golden brown and dusted with powdered sugar and glazed with cinnamon vanilla glaze
