New York Street Food

I’ve been to Bistro Truck fairly regularly over the past few months for a couple of reasons: Yassir keeps coming up with new daily specials that I want to try, and the food is reliably delicious.

There was another new menu item that I’ve seen a couple of times, but this is the first chance I’ve had to try it.  Today’s Lunch is an Old Bay Fish Sandwich ($10) from Bistro Truck.

I was down by Union Square around lunch time and decided to stop by Bistro Truck for lunch.   Bistro Truck is one of my favorite places for lunch, and I’m obviously not the only one, as they were a 2010 Vendy Award Finalist in the main category.

I’ve enjoyed most of the items on the menu, and tend to go for the specials at this point.  I wasn’t in the mood for a heavy lunch, so I decided to go for the Crispy Chicken Salad ($8).

One of our favorite food trucks, Bistro Truck, is today’s Daily Deal on Groupon.  We’ve had some great meals there, and we’re not the only ones who think so. Bistro Truck was a Vendy Award Finalist in 2010 in the main category.

While all of Yassir’s food is excellent, in our opinion, the daily specials are the way to go.

I had to be near Union Square around lunch, and wanted to talk to Yassir from Bistro Truck.  Towards the end of last year, he told me that he was working on some new things, and I wanted to get an update.  I stopped by Bistro Truck last month, but Yassir was out running an errand, so I went back today to speak with him (and of course, get lunch).

Yassir told me he will be coming out with a brand new food cart in the coming months that is totally different from anything currently on the street.  He was reluctant to give out more details, but I gave him my word that I wouldn’t divulge anything to NYSF readers until he was ready to go public.

Yassir then told me what his new food cart will be, and while I’m sworn to secrecy for now, believe me – it will be HUGE!  I promise to tell you as soon as Yassir gives me the ok, so keep checking in with us.

When it was time to order, I’ve always been curious about the Chicken Dijon at Bistro Truck.  It’s been on the regular menu since I’ve been going there, but Yassir’s Daily Specials are so good, I usually end up getting one of those.

Only Bistro Truck and Wafels & Dinges were open today due to the snow, so I headed down to 5th Ave between 16th & 17th St.  Bistro Truck is one of my favorite food trucks, and they were justly rewarded with a Vendy Award nomination in 2010.

Unfortunately, Yassir had just left the truck to run an errand, leaving my lunch in only semi-capable hands, as I will explain after the jump.

I really enjoy both pineapple and BBQ sauce, so the choice of Today’s Lunch was easy – a Hawaiian burger ($7) and Belgian fries ($2.50) from Bistro Truck.  A Hawaiian burger is a cheeseburger with a slice of fresh grilled pineapple and honey BBQ sauce.  It sounded great…and almost was.
