STREET EATS: GALBI BOX FROM BAPCHA

January 24th, 2012

You may have noticed a new title for this post.  As of today, I am changing the name of the food truck and cart reviews from Today’s Lunch to Street Eats.

New York Street Food has grown to the point where things are very busy, and I can’t always eat, write and post a review on the same day.  You can be assured however that Street Eats will be posted within a day or two of eating the food, so it will still be fresh and current.

Last summer I went to Bapcha pretty regularly on 49th St between 6th & 7th Ave. They were one of our weekly stops on the New York Street Food Tour, but I haven’t been there since the summer.

For some reason, I had a hankering for galbi – grilled marinated short ribs – and Bapcha has a galbi box for $8.

TODAY’S LUNCH: SPICY CHICKEN W/SOBA NOODLE SOUP FROM BAPCHA

May 19th, 2011

I needed to speak with John Lee, the owner of Bapcha, about the upcoming New York Street Food Walking Tour, which Bapcha is part of.  As long as I had to see John, it was as good an excuse as any to get lunch.

I decided to get a Korean noodle soup from the cart adjacent to where he makes bulgogi, dak galbi and all the non-soup dishes.

Someone ahead of me got the #3, soba noodles with beef, and I decided that looked pretty good.  John said you can get soba noodles with your choice of meat (beef, chicken, spicy chicken or shrimp) for $7, so Today’s Lunch was spicy chicken with soba noodles.

TODAY’S LUNCH: GALBI & SAEWOO COMBO FROM BAPCHA

April 21st, 2011

Yesterday’s free slider from the Korean Mobile Kitchen got me thinking about galbi, Korean BBQ short ribs.  You normally wouldn’t expect to get galbi on the street – but this is New York, and we have an amazing selection of street food here.

In fact, Bapcha on 49th st between 6th & 7th Ave has galbi, dak galbi, bulgogi, saewoo and other Korean dishes.

Today’s Lunch is a #6 combo, which includes your choice of 2 meats for $9.

TODAY’S LUNCH: SAEWOO (BBQ SHRIMP) BULGOGI FROM BAPCHA

September 9th, 2010

The Bulgogi & Kimchee Cart on 49th St between 6th & 7th Ave got a makeover last month.  It’s now known as Bapcha, which literally means “food cart” in Korean.  I’ve had their dak kalbi (short ribs), bulgogi (barbecued beef) and spicy chicken.  Trying something new, Today’s Lunch is the saewoo bulgogi (barbecued shrimp) for $8.
