THEY PAVED PARADISE AND CLOSED THE PARKING LOT

A former auto sales parking lot in Santa Monica was converted by the owner into a food truck paradise earlier this week.  Unfortnately, the City of Santa Monica was unaware of this new use and promptly shut it down, citing zoning issues.

The truck operators got the OK from the property’s owner, but the property owner neglected to get permission from the city of Santa Monica.  City officials said they never heard from anybody about using the lot at 14 Street and Santa Monica Boulevard for a mobile truck buffet.

But that doesn’t mean the dream will never happen.  Steve Taub, the property owner, said he is “determined” to find a solution.  City officials are studying whether there’s some type of permit for which the vendors could apply.

Organizers said about 1,200 people showed up Monday, the first day of operation.  People who visited the lot Tuesday left disappointed and hungry.

There must be a place in NYC good for hosting this type of “mobile truck buffet”.  Please put your suggestions in the comments, and maybe we can get something like this going here (with the proper permits, of course).
