Last winter we made a couple of visits to the Crif Dogs truck , an expansion of the popular hot dog emporia with locations on St. Marks Place and in Williamsburg.  Curiously, after intermittent appearances around town, the Crif Dogs truck dropped out of sight earleir this year.

Last week, the Crif Dogs truck reappeared with a slimmed down menu, and what seems to be a newfound commitment to daily service.

While you can still get it at the stores, no more Spicy Rednecks on the truck, but they still have the Tsunami.

We got the Chihuahua for $6.

Even though there are fewer offerings on the menu, they all have the Crif Dogs signature of a deep-fried hot dog wrapped in bacon. Of course, the veggie dog skips the bacon part.

Befitting a Mexican-themed dish, the Chihuahua had avocado and sour cream on opposite sides of the bacon-wrapped hot dog.

It all went together pretty well, although we’ve never had avocado and sour cream on a hot dog.

The crispy hot dog and bacon were our favorite parts, as usual.

One problem we have with Crif Dogs is they are not big enough for 1 to satisfy us for lunch, but 2 is too much. A nice selection of chips or a small side dish would have been perfect.
