Hey, we’re getting respectable out there! First, NYC food trucks work with the Mayor’s Office and corporate sponsors to serve over 250,000 meals to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Now, food trucks will officially help feed the crowds coming to Washington DC for the upcoming inauguration.

As detailed by the Washington Business Journal, Washington DC will be hosting 800,000 visitors for the upcoming inauguration of President Obama’s 2nd term. While that’s less than half of the 1.8 million visitors who attended the 1st Obama inauguration, it’s should still be a banner day for street vendors.

According to the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, 100 vendors applied for a license to vend within the inauguration exclusion zone, and a lottery will be held next week to determine exact placement for the day.

Of the 100, 70 will sell merchandise, 25 food and five both merchandise and food. Of the 25 food vendors, per DCRA, 20 will be food trucks, although they haven’t yet announced which ones. [Washington Business Insider]

Should be a strong sales day for those vendors granted permission, although it will likely be one of the longest days they have in quite some time.

A GUIDE TO THE BEST FOOD TRUCKS IN WASHINGTON DC

Last October, we spent a couple of days in Washington DC and had a chance to check out two of the ever-growing number of food trucks in DC.  We got to try Indian food from the Fojol Bros of Merlindia and 4 types of bulgogi from the Yellow Vendor.

In the past year or so, the Mobile Munchies scene is DC has grown so quickly, it’s tough to keep track of all the trucks.

To help everyone keep up with the best food trucks in the DC area, the Washington Post put together this handy guide.  The Fojol Bros and Yellow Vendor are included, as well as 9 others, including Brooklyn’s own Red Hook Lobster Pound, which has a truck in Washington DC serving lobster rolls.

If you’re in DC at any point, there are some excellent choices in food trucks now available.

The Traveling Culinary Carnival put on by the Fojol Bros has added another truck – this one from Benethiopia (to go with the one they already have from Merlindia).

It can get kind of silly, but we really enjoyed lunch from their Merlindian truck on our trip to Washington DC about a month ago.

TODAY’S LUNCH: 4 TYPES OF BULGOGI FROM THE YELLOW VENDOR (WASHINGTON DC)

Yesterday for my 1st street food lunch in Washington DC, I had a very nice lunch from the Fojol Bros of Merlindia, who I had heard about and looked up on Twitter.

Today in DC was more fortuitous.  I just happened to spot a yellow truck and noticed “bulgogi”, bibimbap” and a few other Korean dishes printed on the side of the truck.  The weather was still crappy, and the side window was closed, but as I approached the truck, someone else peeked their head into the passenger seat window and asked if they were open.  They said yes and opened the side window.

How would this lunch compare to Korean street food in NYC, such as Bapcha, as well as the Fojol Bros lunch yesterday?  Find out after the jump.

I’m down in Washington DC for a couple of days, and as I wrote about last week, Washington DC has a vibrant street food scene, with more and more trucks hitting the streets every week.  I should be able to try two of them this week for lunch.

Today’s Lunch in Washington DC is from the Fojol Bros of Merlindia, one of the more popular food trucks in Washington DC.  Click through to find out more about their Traveling Culinary Carnival.
