What Do You Think Of The Truck Designs On The Great Food Truck Race?

September 7th, 2012

We had a fun read earlier this week on the SF Weekly Blog. One of their writers, Michael Leaverton, went off on the designs of the trucks in this season’s Great Food Truck Race.

As we told you a while back, none of this year’s contestants had food trucks, which were provided to them by the show.

Only the winner gets to keep their truck at the end of the season, but according to Michael, that may not be such a  great thing.

I mean, does this really look like a grandmother from NJ?

New Food Truck Cuisine…Braaaains!

August 29th, 2012

What started as a promotional vehicle for the UK DVD release of The Walking Dead Season 2, has turned into a business.

Mark Jankel of Street Kitchen decided to shock Londoners and create a very original publicity stunt. On August 22nd he launched his Gory Gourmet food truck, which treats Londoners to dishes made from calf brain, pig feet or cow thyroid.

Despite the original promotional nature, this food truck has become a definite success.

And why shouldn’t it. Doesn’t this look delicious?

If you can stomach it, the Gory Gourmet menu is here.

Andrew Zimmern Opening A Food Truck

August 23rd, 2012

The latest TV food personality to open a food truck is Andrew Zimmern. It’s called AZ Canteen, and there’s even a local NYC/NJ connection.

Why did Andrew open a food truck? Let’s hear from the man himself.

“I love food. What I love even more is food with a story. That’s why I’ve created AZ Canteen.

This carefully curated menu showcases some inspired versions of the best food items I’ve discovered on the road. From a Nicaraguan shaved ice that I’ve seen only once outside of Central America, to goat sausage grinders (one of the most delicious meats on the planet!) made with an exclusive cabrito blend from my friend Pat LaFrieda, these foods resonated with me and I’m thrilled to share my culinary experiences with you.”

Yes, the AZ Canteen cabrito (baby goat) sausage is made by our own Pat LaFrieda. We lived down the block from Pat’s plant for a number of years, but Manhattan rent got too high, and he moved operations out to NJ a couple of years ago.

So what else is on the menu, and where can you find the AZ Canteen truck?
