Yay, we finally have a banh mi truck in NYC! There are at least 3 in LA, but in NYC we are only aware of a banh mi cart in the Financial District. If you don’t work downtown, you’re SOL.

The Paris Sandwich Truck is fairly new to NYC, but as we told you recently, they used to sell in Jersey city, and have 2 storefronts in Chinatown.

We love fish, and an authentic Vietnamese banh mi truck should make a decent fish banh mi sandwich, since fish is such a big part of their diet. Let’s find out.

All of the Paris Sandwich banh mis cost $8.  They also had spicy shrimp, coconut curry beef, and some chicken and pork items on the menu too.

NYSF First Look: Traditional Chinese Food

We’re thankful to have engaged readers giving us tips on a regular basis. We’re not one of those websites with a bunch of writers on staff. Despite the use of “we” in our writing, New York Street Food is one person covering the street food scene in one of the largest cities in the world (plus a few other cities on occasion).

The latest great tip to come our way was from Anne of City Spoonful, who told us about a new cart on West 4th St just east of Washington Square Park called Traditional Chinese Food. Anne raved about the cold spicy noodles.

That sounded so good we wanted to try it, but just like some new vendors have a learning curve before they get to where they want to be, we had a learning curve on this new cart, and did not order what we wanted.

Neither the chef nor his partner outside the cart taking orders and handling the money spoke English, including many of the food terms. We had to point to something on the menu and use gestures to get our point across.

It was kind of like being in China, but we were just in the Village! And just as if we were in China, we made a mistake that affected our entire order.

NYSF First Look: Chicken Shish Tawouk From Bread & Olives

We went over to midtown’s Food Truck Central last Thursday for lunch. Food Truck Central is not an official designation, but on 47th St between Madison & Park, on Park Ave between 47th & 48th St, and across Park Ave towards Lexington, there were about 10 food trucks. That doesn’t even count the Mister Softee and Frozen Yogurt trucks.

On Park Ave by 47th St was a new food truck we had not seen before called Bread & Olives. They describe their food as Authentic Lebanese Cuisine, with falafel, shawarma, hummus and the like as their mainstays. After eating lunch, we had some correspondence with Janah, the chef and owner (?).

We ordered chicken shish tawouk in a deluxe platter, which comes with fries and hummus for $7. You can also get it over rice for the same price, or in a sandwich for a buck less.

NYSF First Look: Rhong-Tiam Supreme Burger Truck

Last week when we were in L.A., the Rhong-Tiam Supreme Burger Truck hit the street. Roberto B, a NYSF reader and avid foodie, agreed to check out the truck for us, and sent in this very descriptive Guest Post. Thanks Roberto.

Now that we’re back in town, we had to check it our ourself.

Heading down to the Flatiron District yesterday, there was a short-lived threat of rain around lunchtime, and it was pretty quiet at the truck. That sucked for the truck, but did give us a chance to talk to the owner and chef Andy Yang.

Andy told us a bit about the food, as well as his plans for world domination. Just kidding about the world domination, but you’ll be seeing much more in the way of Rhong-Tiam trucks and carts very soon, with a variety of menus. We’ll tell you more about that later.

Everything on the menu looked interesting, so we decided to get the first thing on the list, General Tso’s Burger for $10.

After Roberto raved about the fries, we definitely wanted to check out an order, and there are 3 types. We got the Asian Invasion Fries for $4.

NYSF First Look: Soup & Sandwich from Fresh And Hearty

We were contacted by a new food truck that debuted over the weekend called Fresh And Hearty. We couldn’t make it there Sunday, but were able to stop by yesterday when they were serving lunch on 47th St between Park & Madison.

As you can see from the side of the truck, the menu is panini, salad and soup.

We opted for the Turkey Muenster Jam Panini, which had turkey and a few other ingredients, but no jam. They must have meant jam in the colloquial sense. The panini cost $7, and here is the panini menu.

There were also about half a dozen soups to choose from, and we decided to get a small chicken & dumpling soup for $4.
