DESSERT ALERT: LE PETIT TEMPTATION IS BACK

October 27th, 2011

New Jersey is about to get a little sweeter!

The Le Petit Temptation dessert truck is ready to roll back into Jersey City tomorrow.  They will be at the Creative Grove Market next to the PATH exit on Fridays, and by Hamilton Park on Saturdays.

Le Petit Temptation is a modern French patisserie that we have written about in the past.  We tried them at the 2010 NYC Food Film Festival Drive-In, and have kept in touch with the owner Jessie ever since.

Jessie was selling his line of pastries at the Liberty Towers gourmet shop on Hudson St in Jersey City and at the Greene-Ville Gardens store in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, but we’re not sure if that is still the case.

So what can you expect from Le Petit Temptation?

NYSF FIRST LOOK: MAMMA MARCI’S

September 22nd, 2011

The last new food truck I tried at the All About Downtown Festival in Jersey City last weekend was Mamma Marci’s.  Both Home By The Range and Lucinda Creperie were excellent.  How would Mamma Marci’s stack up?

First I perused the menu, which you can see here.  I’ve heard that Mamma Marci’s meatball sandwich ($7) is good, but I decided to go for the Italian hot dog ($7) instead.

NYSF FIRST LOOK: HOME BY THE RANGE

September 21st, 2011

One of the new food trucks I tried at the All About Downtown Festival in Jersey City over the weekend was Home By The Range.  Their tagline is Locally Inspired Street Food, which sounded promising.

Home By The Range makes local, fresh organic sandwiches and side dishes.  Their menu is driven by what’s available, so it’s not extensive.  Everything on the menu looked good, so I asked for two half sandwiches – 1/2 a New Jersey Cow and 1/2 a New Porker.  You can see that day’s menu here, although it changes based on what’s in season.

(clockwise from top left) Jersey Cow, New Porker, chicken confit, potato salad, heirloom tomato & corn salad

NYSF FIRST LOOK: LUCINDA CREPERIE

September 20th, 2011

When I was at the All About Downtown Festival in Jersey City on Saturday, I had an opportunity to try a few new vendors.  One of them was Lucinda Creperie, which is owned and run by Natasha and Chris.

Lucinda Creperie has both sweet and savory crepes, but it was towards the end of the afternoon, and I was in the mood for dessert.  I decided to go for a crepe with bananas, walnuts and dulce de leche ($5).  You can see their sweet and savory menus here and here.

When I walked up to the cart, I asked which crepe they recommended.  Chris suggested getting a crepe with dulce de leche. He said his family was from Uruguay, and they have an old family recipe they use to make their dulce de leche.  I like the sound of that – an old family recipe!

While I was waiting for my order, Natasha was making a vegetarian crepe ($5) for the person in front of me.  It had avocado, brie, roasted peppers, tomato and pesto.  You can see the picture below, and it looks pretty tasty.
