After going to the Mac Truck last month for a buffalo chicken mac & cheese, NYSF reader Jen commented “I’m sure you have since tried the Cheeseburger Mac, but in case you haven’t… it is delicious! Get it with the Toasted Crumbs!”

NYSF would not be where it is today if we didn’t listen to our readers. We’ve also learned to listen to the vendors, and Dom had a couple of other suggestions.

“How about making it a bacon cheeseburger mac & cheese with freshly grated parmesan on top?” Talk about an offer you can’t refuse!

A small portion goes for $8 and a large is $10. Guess which one we got?

Street Eats: Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese from the Mac Truck

It was a cold and wet day yesterday (like today) and the Mac Truck was only 2 blocks from my office, on 55th & Broadway. We can’t think of a better way to warm our insides on this bone-chilling day than with a Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese.

Dom has made a few minor changes to the menu. Now he offers small and large sizes. The classic mac & cheese is priced at $6/$8  and the specials are $8/$10.

Street Eats: Mac & Cheese Sandwich from Toast Monster

If you’re like me, you probably looked at the title of this post and said “What? Why would you put macaroni & cheese on toast and grill it?”

The answer is because we were expecting to have sloppy joe on the sandwich too. Unfortunately, they were sold out of the sloppy joe add-on a little after 1pm, so we ended up with just mac & cheese in the sandwich. It cost $6 by itself and $8 with sloppy joe.

It was still pretty darn good. Click through for the down low on a toasted mac & cheese sandwich from Toast Monster.

Veggie Mac & Cheese from the Stouffer’s Truck

As we’ve mentioned, the Stouffer’s Mac & Cheese Truck is in town for 3 weeks, serving 5 different toppings over their macaroni & cheese for $4 a bowl. They are also raising money for Hurricane Sandy Relief, which Congress has been very slow to act upon.

Before leaving the office, we had our mind made up – BBQ Pork Mac & Cheese – but thebest laid plans of mice and men, etc, etc. When we arrived at the truck, the Veggie Mac & Cheese looked much more interesting on the menu.

We’re trying to be more open-minded lately, including eating more vegetarian meals, so that we changed our mind and got the Veggie Mac & Cheese for $4.

Street Eats: Moc ‘n Cheese & Chunky Veggie Soup From The Squeeze

One of the newer street vendors in NYC is The Squeeze. They started with a food truck last May, then added a cart in November. The truck has been parking in Tribeca, and the cart has been parked on Union Square West between 14-15 St.

The Squeeze sells “raw comfort food”, cold pressed juices, booster shots, cleanses, and a few other healthy goodies.

On our first visit to The Squeeze, we had a vegan hot dog with kimchi topping. That was not one of our more enjoyable lunches, but we seem to have found the sweet spot on our second visit.

We ordered a “moc ‘n cheese” for $7, and since it was a cold day (to say the least), also got an order of chunky veggie soup for $5.
