Culturemob recently ran an article about the explosion of great street food now available in Denver.  While Biker Jim’s got a lot of TV love from Anthony Bourdain for his reindeer hot dog, the street food choices are all over the map in Denver, from pizza to vegetarian food to sushi, and of course, desserts!

DAMN TACOS ARE NOW DRUNK TACOS

June 29th, 2010

Pinche tacos

From Denver On A Spit: “Already steeped in what might go down as the stupidest controversy ever, Pinche Tacos has changed its name after an overly-sensitive bureaucrat at the Downtown Denver Business Improvement District became alarmed because “Pinche” is a “bad word”.  In reality, it’s about the equivalent of saying “damn” at the worst.

But with politicians involved, simple logic lost again.  From now on, when you see the donkey logo on Denver’s 16th Street Mall, it will be under the name “Tacos Borrachos”, or drunk tacos.  Instead of using a harmless, borderline curse word, let us instead expose the impressionable teenage mall rats to the excessive intake of alcohol. Way to go politicos.

Pinche Tacos prides itself on serving “Comida de la Calle” (street food), and using locally sourced ingredients including their traditional corn tortillas.  They have an interesting range of options that go from carnitas to lengua (tongue) to breakfast tacos with green chile hollandaise.” [Denver On A Spit]

MILE-HIGH STREET FOOD

Thai Cart

Thai Cart

Denver has been getting some street food love lately, with the Thai Cart, the Gastro Cart and Biker Jim’s Gourmet Dogs.  In the coming months, they hope to have Steuben’s mobile food truck (green chile cheeseburgers and fries, hot dogs from Continental Sausage Company, Cuban sandwiches, veggie sandwiches and daily specials like lobster rolls).  They also say that Frank Bonanno is looking at doing a Bones food truck, which would offer noodles and dumplings and maybe even steamed buns.

There have been loncherias on Colfax and Federal for a long time, but the new carts and trucks are taking street food to a whole new level, about a mile-high. [Denver Westword]
