Congratulations To The Winner Of The Eat St. Recipe Book

March 28th, 2013

eat st
This was a tough contest, but Scott F. came closest with the most correct answers of the Eat St. episodes we have been on.

We have been on Eat St episodes featuring the Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, Comme Ci, Comme Ca and Gorilla Cheese NYC.

There are also two episodes in the can for next season, one with Okadaman and one with Marky Ramone’s Cruisin’ Kitchen. Marky Ramone even came down to the Hudson Square Food Truck Lot for the filming of that episode.

The only one Scott got wrong was Bistro Truck, but we did actually film an episode with Bistro Truck. Eat St told us there were technical problems with the Bistro Truck episode, and it never aired.

The one episode everyone missed was Gorilla Cheese NYC. We had a great time with James, the owner, filming that episode.

James Cunningham from Eat St is going to be on CBS This Morning on Monday (4/1) to promote the book, and asked James Klayman from Gorilla Cheese to be on the show with him. That should be a fun segment to watch.

There was only one contest winner, Scott F, but you can buy a copy of the Eat St Recipe Book here.

Win A Copy Of The Eat St. Recipe Book

We’re big fans of Eat St, the Canadian show that’s on the Cooking Channel all the time. And it’s not only because we’ve been on the show three times (and have two more in the can).

We love our job eating NYC street food every day, but James Cunningham, the host, gets to eat from the best food trucks all over the US, Canada and the UK.

If you’ve ever watched Eat St. and said, “I would love to make that dish at home”, now you can. The Eat St. cookbook features 126 recipes from the food trucks featured on the show’s 4 seasons, including a bunch of your favorite NYC street vendors.

We even got a shout-out from Sean of Feed Your Hole in the photo below, which is on the book’s Table of Contents page. Thanks buddy.

Click through to get a sampling of the recipes included in the book, both from NYC and other food trucks. There is also a link to buy the book, and we will be giving away 1 copy to a lucky NYSF reader in or latest contest.

1st Boston vs NYC Food Truck Throwdown

1st Boston vs NYC Food Truck Throwdown

Back in October 2012, seven NYC food trucks were invited up to Boston for the 1st Food Truck Throwdown.

The big winner was Wafels & Dinges, but there were plenty of winners on both sides in various categories. As usual, the biggest winners were the people who got to try a bunch of food trucks they haven’t tried before.

Now a date for the sequel has been set.

Halalathon Winner Crowned In Queens

February 20th, 2013

winner Jeffrey Tastes

We know about the Vendy Awards and even Street Meat Palooza, but the Halalathon is a new one to us. Maybe that’s because this is the 1st year it was held.

From DNAInfo: There’s a new halal champion in Jackson Heights.

A group of Queens foodies awarded a lamb-topped trophy to the halal food cart on the corner of 74th Street and 37th Avenue, declaring it the winner of the first-ever “Halalathon,” a search for the best halal in a neighborhood loaded with options.

Three judges were joined by 10 lucky volunteers to try food from 11 different spots within a mile radius of the Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street stop in Jackson Heights.

One of the judges, Jeff Orlick, 31, who runs food tours through his Queens food blog Jeffrey Tastes and helped organize Woks and Lox in December, said he’d always avoided the carts, thinking they were nothing more than plain street food.

But since trying all of the neighborhood’s options to prepare for Halalathon, he’s come to appreciate the cuisine, he said.

“It’s a New York thing,” said Orlick, a Jackson Heights resident. “People want their food cheap and quick, on the way home from work.”
