How Was Our Classic Combo at the Milk Truck?

When we checked out the new Hudson Square Food Truck Lot last week, it was a cool, rainy day (like this whole week).  This is perfect weather for some comfort food, like hot soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I decided to try the Classic Combo from the Milk Truck.  This was a Milk Truck Classic sandwich with a cup of tomato soup for $10.

I started with the sandwich because I wanted to get the cheese while it was still warm and gooey.  Good call.

The pullman bread from Balthazar Bakery was nicely ridged from the grill, and the crust had a good crunch.

The Milk Truck Classic was made with aged gruyere, which had a pleasant tang, as well as the gooeyness I hoped for.

When people mention comfort food, this is what they’re talking about.  When I finished the sandwich, there was a buttery aftertaste in my mouth.  Mmm good!

The tomato soup was thick and rich, with a very strong tomato taste.  I don’t usually order tomato soup because I’m not a big fan of tomatoes, but if there’s enough cream and herbs, I can be persuaded.

In this case, the soup tasted like pureed tomatoes without much cream or herbs in it.  If you added some basil and oregano, you could have used the tomato soup as tomato sauce.  This soup is good for people who love tomatoes, but it wasn’t to my personal taste.

Even though I would like to see more variety in their soups, the grilled cheese sandwiches at the Milk Truck are excellent.  The ingredients are top-notch, and the execution is too.

The Milk Truck gets around to different neighborhoods and food truck lots, so find them on twitter here or on our Mobile Munchies twitter feed.
