FOOD TRUCK FESTIVALS IN NYC & BOSTON THIS WEEKEND

New and repeat food truck festivals are taking place this weekend in NYC and Boston.
In an encore performance of a very successful debut, the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market is having another Gourmet Food Truck Bazaar…and Boston is holding it’s 1st Annual Food Truck Festival.
Eat, Shop, Love! This weekend spend a leisurely Sunday eating and shopping at the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market. Check out a few of our favorite gourmet food trucks.
The Line Up: Rickshaw Dumpling Truck, The Krave Truck, Bistro Truck, Go Burger, Big Gay Ice Cream Truck
And don’t forget the amazing treasure finds from our vintage flea market vendors! Sunday, August 8, 2010 from 11am to 4pm

If you thought Boston didn’t have a food truck scene? Well, the revolution starts NOW. In conjunction with SoWa Sundays (and merci to a micro-grant from FEAST), citysearch boston will pull all the stops to ensure that — for at least one afternoon — local food trucks will stand together in solidarity and thing-on-a-stick-y.
The first annual Food Truck Festival in Boston is being held this Sunday (8th) – where vroom vroom meets nomnomnom. Confirmed participants include: speed’s hot dogs, m&m ribs, lincoln street coffee, dragon mobile disco, taza chococycle, south end pita, boston frosty, fillbelly’s, cupcakory, herrara’s mexican grill, food truck nation, equal exchange coffee trike, grillo’s pickles, the sausage guy, roxy’s grilled cheese, b. good and trolley dogs.
The festival is at SoWa Food & Produce at 500 Harrison Ave, South End, Boston from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. [facebook page]

I think The Krave (Korean BBQ) will be at the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market event. They actually drive over from Jersey City. So, I guess you could call the NYC one a multi-state event.

Two quickies: There’s a huge Mexican food truck that seems to do great business on West 18th St near 6th Ave. every weekday at lunch. It’s by a halal cart (on the Ave)–hard-working young guy–that I always get my gyro from. Between the two operations I think they feed all the employees at the Chase and Sports Authority that are both right there. Also, there’s a truck a lot of evenings with Mexican food at West 14th St. and 8th Ave. And Sweet Treats (or whatever the silver truck w/ desserts is called) often stakes out a place at the end of the workday right at the SE entrance to the no. 1 subway stop at the corner of 18th and 7th. I point these out cuz Chelsea is a real food truck wasteland. I think the bike lanes in Chelsea aren’t good for food truck culture. I don’t think they’re all they’re cracked up to be. A lot of small businesses on the avenues with the new big concrete bike lane separators are suffering because of them.

Thanks for the tips. The one on 18th & 6th is called The Brothers Express and we reviewed it about 2 weeks ago here: http://tinyurl.com/33gfzvs. Enjoyed their tacos. There are different Mexican trucks around 14th St & 7th/8th Ave. Sometimes El Idolo is there, sometimes Super Tacos is there.

We had Krave at the NYC Food Film Festival in Bklyn in June. Excellent food, reviewed here – http://tinyurl.com/2bt28bd. If you want to check them out at the Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market on Sun, we suggest getting there early.
