Did We Enjoy Munchie’s Smokehouse Chicken Sandwich?

We felt for Smokehouse Chicken Sandwich. Things were really busy at work recently and we had to stay close by for lunch. Luckily the Munchie Mobile was around the corner.

We’ve had really good burgers and onion rings at Munchie Mobile, but one thing we haven’t tried yet are their chicken sandwiches. We also haven’t tried their fries yet.

There are several Chicken Sandwiches available, both grilled and fried. We went for the Smokehouse Chicken Sandwich, which cost $8.

Side orders were a little trickier. They were out of fries, so we ordered mozzarella sticks. About 5 minutes after ordering the sticks, we were told they were out of those. Well, what did they have left? “How about jalapeño poppers?” OK.

The Smokehouse Chicken Sandwich had grilled chicken, bacon, cheddar cheese, bbq sauce, lettuce, tomato and red onion. Now that’s a sandwich!

The Smokehouse Chicken Sandwich was as good as it sounds. Slightly sweet bbq sauce, crispy bacon, chicken and red onion were the primary tastes, and they worked together beautifully.

The chicken was still plenty moist, and the bun was nicely toasted, giving off a little crunch on each bite.

It wasn’t a perfect sandwich, with the cheddar cheese not really coming through. A stronger cheddar would have worked better, but it was still a mighty tasty sandwich.

Opening up the container with the jalapeño poppers, we have to voice a complaint that’s pretty common among food trucks. Side dishes are supposed to be a supplement to a meal, not an entire meal by themselves.

The poppers were $5 and included 7 big, deep-fried jalapeños with cream cheese in the middle. That’s way too much for one person to eat as a side dish with a burger or chicken sandwich. We would much rather get 4 poppers for $3. That would be a true side dish.

Despite the huge portion, they were done well. The breading was fried to a golden brown, and with each bite, there was an explosion of jalapeño flavor and rich cream cheese in our mouth.

We did end up eating all the jalapeño poppers, but that says more about our gluttonous tendencies than anything else. We wouldn’t recommend eating 7 jalapeño poppers after a Smokehouse chicken sandwich, but we are professionals. Don’t try this at home!

Munchies Mobile recently started getting into some of the food truck lots, so their weekly schedule has been changing. You’re best bet is to check their location on Twitter here or on our Mobile Munchies Twitter feed.
